The door creeked shut, the faint light of torches in the hallway became shuddered by the wooden door. The dwarf, a duergar and a particularly fat one at that kicked his boots off and shuffled over to the chair of his desk, which he promptly sat upon...and died. The dwarven merchant had made the mistake of placeing his chair so that his back was to the window over looking the crowded bazarr. He hadent even had time to count the days coins before a black arm with a knife at the end, snaked from the curtains on the side of the windows, a knife tipped with green drip of poison, a blade that claimed his life with no audible sound.

Velkin Skikudis, was a nobody..a male...a drow male of a minor, almost not existant merchant house of Szith. He had been given a list, a rather long list of ten profiles..people who had angered the superiors of the house, or so he thought. The truth was as unimpressive as his existance, being deemed the least useful male of his house, he had been sent on this task..but little did he know when he left, his superiors shared a chuckle for they belived he wouldnt return..being as useless as he was.

He kept his hands to himself for the most part as he shifted left and right through a throng of drow and duergar, and even the occasional illithid merchant, but occasionally someone did donate a coin purse to his personal funds. His head bent low, his face concealed by his hood..he quickly took an ink quill and scratched something off a sheet of paper in his hands. He read down the list slowly, remembering each of the people he had killed up until this moment. he had killed eight...no wait, he marked off the ninth duergar who now sat dead in his office, nine people.

The tenth one was going to be difficult as it was full of crowded people. The last duergar merchant was located in an exclusivly duergar tavern, according to the rumors from liberally greased palms, someone has been killing all of his trade partners and he belives he is next...go figure. He had one thing that made him vulnerable however, the top of his head was red and black, haveing been injured in a forge "accident". Velkin laughed softly, then cursed himself for being so careless...the dwarf should have died in that "accident" if it wasnt for Velkins mistake.

The tavern was noisey, and filled with smoke and duergars. The building itself was well maintained and occupied, Velkin quickly determined that there was no subtle way to eliminate the dwarf with out attracting attention, at least on the inside. The door to the tavern had an overhang, why..it was anyones guess, but above the over hang was a window that gave a clear view of inside. Velkin smiled from the relative safety of a quality invisiblity potion he had purchased, he grinned as he watched his targets burned head scuttle across the floor. The drow stood on the over hang, crouched as he finished sorting out a mess of razor wire.

The duergar, after curseing someone inside, stumbled out into the street, heavily inroxicated. He felt something cold, and sticky grace the skin of his neckline, "Bah...damned spider webs!" he said as he tried to push away the strands of webbing.

Velkin scrambled up to the roof and quickly scuttled to the top, stopping for but a brief second to tie the expensive, yet magically tough razor wire to a secure fixture on the the roof. The tiles under his feet were quiet, compared to the duergars gasps and chokes for air behind him, as the spider web on his neck turned out to be a sharp razor wire, fastined to something in away that the more the duergar walked...the more he died.

Velkin, after almost a year away from Szith, found himself walking on familiar, and comfortable grounds. He nodded to the merchants, who seemed to be perminent fixtures of the grand caverns, but other wise kept to himself. He crossed the last name off his hit list, and looked up as he entered the cavern where his house resided....or did. The house was different, soldiers in different colors stood..everwatchful of their ward.

So that was it....his house was gone...he was a houseless male...a houseless murderor. He figured he should be bothered by that, but after the past year he realised he had learned alot about the art of murder..enough to remain confident that someone would take notice of his abilities...all it needed was time, and being a drow..he had lots of it.

Why did Velkin Skikudis want to kill 10 duergars? Was he just enjoying to kill lesser creatures?

Which one was Skikudis' former house? Why did he leave Szith?

What does bring Skikudis in House Morcane? Has he undertaken any missions for anyone so far?

Your story made a very interesting reading. Well done!

1-He killed the duergar because he was told to kill them. They betrayed his house matron in several business deals.

-I dont actually have a house name, though I can make one up its not one of the current ones though. In online servers its hard to represent the real scope of things, we can physically see and touch and interact with the main drow houses (the ones run by pcs) but its almost always assumed that there are alot more houses, (such as minor houses) that we cant see because of server limitations, just like the notion that the center of szith is probably packed with all kindas of drow moveing about their daily bussiness, but due to server limitations we cant have a thousand npcs wandering around.

-He was told to track the Duergar down and eliminate them, this process lead him deep, deep into the underdark to various places of habitat, it took him almost a year to plan and execute his task (and the duergar). The house matron thought him very useless even for a male, and sent him on this errand more as a joke then anything, the house didnt actually expect him to return.

-He isnt actively chooseing morcane, he was approached by a morcane and given a task..albe it a simple one, to steal the sword of a great bugbear who prowled around xilith. Velkyn stole the sword right out from underneath the things nose, but the creature didnt like it and Velkyn used the sword to kill him (no easy task for a level 3 rogue mind you) He is expecting more tasks from the house, and always makes himself available when he sees a morcane.

"The bigger they are...."

The cavern was quiet, well...if one could call a cave with a snoreing bugbear quiet. Velkyn crept low, crab walking with his back against the wall, at least as far as the wall continued before it turned. He knew that as stupid as bugbears were, they had great hearing, so he had to becareful, carefull enough to time each slide with the grateing, ear bleeding snores of Zhug, the great resident of the Xilith caverns. The bats watched him from the ceiling, for as stealthy as he was, bats were keen of and hearing, very little could escape their notice. Velkyn, after reaching the corner, slid quietly onto his belly and began to crawl along the floor, much like a lizard would do to leave its scent. He took a great risk crawling close to Zhug, but he needed a contingency, an escape plan should things go badly. The creatures immense size, and sure ability to cleave Velkyn in half, was why he was now rigging several carefully concealed ropes, all tied to one pivotal spot near the bugbears feet.

The drow from Szith, worked carefully to dismantle to blades protrudeing from Zhugs locked chest, how the creature had been capable of rigging it in the first place was beyond him, but he didnt care...it didnt matter. The spikes came off the chest easily enough, and he pockted them for later use. He glanced over to the sleeping bugbear, and with a movement of his tongue, produced two admantine lock picks he had concealed in his cheeks for easy access dureing this particular burglary. He was still crouched low as he worked carefully to deal with the lock quietly, he looked down to see one of the many rats that occupied the cavern gnawing at his leather boots. Velkyns hands were cupped over the lock as he worked his skill, the leather padding of his hands muffled the "click" of the chest when the lock finally gave way to his relentless lockpicking.

He began to open the chest, when he felt something painful bite deep into his toe. He glanced down to see the rat had found a hole in his boot, and had sunk its fangs into his big toe. He lifted and slid his other foot over, stepping on the rats head until it stopped moveing. "Iblith!" he cursed at the rat quietly, as the rat let out a tiny squeek before it finally died. The snoreing stopped, and Velkyn didnt hesitate to guess why, instead he flung the chest open with a loud crash and snatched the contents from inside, one of them a shortsword with a razor sharp edge and a red magical glow. He rolled to the side as a two handed sword, held by an angry bugbear cleaved the chest in half. The tiny, lithe drow rolled again, then flipped backwards out of the bugbears reach, and another of its sword swings. The drow turned and planted an arrow intot he surprised bugbears eye before breaking into a full run. The cavern became loud with the bugbears roars once it found its feet tied with ropes.

One, two...the drow counted as he ran down the narrow cavern leading to the bugbears lair, every few feet he pulled something metal out of the ground... the safety switchs of more escape contingencys.

Three, four..he counted each count followed by an angry pain filled scream as rows of spikes and vials of acid were mechanically flung at Zhug as he chased the drow down the hallway.

Five...and Velkyn shimmed up a nearby gathering of rocks, well above the bugbears height and he crouched, and waited with his shortswords...well one was his and the other formerly belonging to Zhug waiting silently in the dark.

Six, seven... Zhug came roaring out of the hallway into the open cavern, his flesh heavily burned by acid, his body covered by over two dozen slashs that ran with crimson blood.

Eight, nine...the bugbear kept running, unaware that the theif had gone
Up not forward, the bugbear blundered into Velkyns final trap, a compilation of acid, blades and tangeling ropes and wires. The bugbear let out a blood churning roar as his legs were literally sliced into peices by the swirl of mechanical blades.

Velkyn approached the writheing bugbear from behind, the shortsword that the creature had owned only moments before in hand. The bugbear roared as it reguarded the drow upside down from the cavern floor.

Ten...Zhug died in a coup de grace performed with his own sword.

This member should receive access. A House Yathrin must give an induction, and access to the guild house, and guild forums should be given.

"Count to Ten"

The cavern was filled with the heavy footsteps of men, humans who obviously did not belong there, intruders...and fools at that. They had obviously gotten lost, they had obviously gone deeper then they expected.

"I told ye we should have taken a left instead of a right! But no one listens to me!" boasted a plate armored dwarf.

"Shhh, its bad enough we are lost, we dont need to bring any manner of horrible grusome deaths upon us!" pleaded a tall gangly man in wizardly attire.

"Both of you be quiet" said a tall, burly man who took the lead, a man who stalked across the cavern with his tower shield infront of him..moveing ever so slowly.

"Did you hear that?" inquired the mage with a nervous croak in his voice.

"It was just me belly, havent eaten in four hours!" boasted the dwarf.

The group stopped suddenly, for now they all heard the noise..a series of whispers in the darkness..wait no...it was laughter!.

"Can you count to ten?" a voice came from somewhere in the darkness.

"Show yourself beast, so i can cut you down" the tower shielded man replied.

"I bet you cant" the voice said calmly, and they could hear the sound of creaking wood, or leather as if something was being pulled taut.

"One" the voice counted, and an arrow bearing a glass arrowhead sped from the darkness, strikeing the dwarf on the cheek and shattering, spilling a green liquid into the runts bloodstream.

The group tightend its ranks, peering in every direction..the now pale mage mumbling a spell that light up the immedate area around them.

"Two" the voice continued, and another arrow struck the dwarf just under his chin where it punched a hole in his throat, toppling him over backwards with a crash, and a moment later the dwarf lay still...dead.

"This is insane, we need to get out of here or we are all going to end up like him!" the mage pleaded with the tower shield warrior, as he pointed to the dead dwarf.

"Three" this time the sound came from the right of them, where as before it was on the left. The two adventuerors turned and ran across the massive cavern, heading for the nearest tunnel.

"Four" the voice came from behind them, trailing behind a vial of acid which shattered on the warriors plate mail, splashing acid onto his face.

"Five" the voice counted cooly, and the warrior hurled a heavy metal dart towards the voice.

"Six, and you missed" the voice laughed as an glass tipped arrow imbeded itself into the mages right shoulder, causeing the man to scream in pain, his arm going numb.

"Seven" the voice continued to follow them as they approached a wooden door, but no more attempt at death came.

"Eight" counted the voice, as the mage grabbed the handle and yanked the door open, and was subsequentally blown backwards a few feet in a conflagration ignited by a well placed trap. The mages body lay still, dead and smokeing and the warrior let out a blood chilling scream.

"Nine" the voice sounded closer this time, but the darkness of the cavern seemed to thicken around him as if a cloud of ink had settled upon him. He could hear his own breath, loud like a rageing wind. The warrior groaned loudly as two blades, roughly the size of shortswords dug a home at a downward angle on the left and right of his shoulder. The mans body convulsed as the assailant pushed them deeper into his flesh. The warriors blood began to burn, he felt like he was on fire from the inside.

The tower shield warrior could feel someone behind him now...of course! someone had to be holding those obviously poisined shortswords. He didnt really dwell on the matter as his body convulsed one more time and the man fell to the ground with a metal crash.

"Ten" counted Velkyn as he pulled his shortswords free.

//I am omitting names of the players who Velkyn toyed (and murdered) yesterday, for anti-meta gameing purporses. They were all one level lower then me and had somehow (I guess its possible) managed to survive long enough to get fairly close to szith. The were all very good sports, and consent and planning was agreed upon all across the board, raises were given and a killer time was had by all!.

"Recount"

Velkyn ran, his shortswords resting neatly in their sheaths, one across his torso and the other at his side. He ran and he ran, the brown stone of the tunnels on either side of him flashing by, he paced himself..controlling the oxygen he was expanidng. The air hummed behind him and his hairs on his arm stood on end, almost instinctivly he bowed his head and launched into a forward roll as a lightning bolt arched down the tunnel, blasting the air where he once was.

Velkyns didnt glance back, haveing the home advantage and much more indepth knowledge of these tunnels. The three men chaseing him, were familiar to him for he had met them, for he had murdered them before..or so he thought. The cowerdly wizard, the loud dwarf and the steel plated, tower shielded warrior had come back for revenge..and this time they were ready.

The drow turned a corner and quickly crouched and squeezed himself between two boulders that made him seem dimintive in size. The shield bearer, and the wizard ran past his hideing spot, and the dwarf would have too if he hadnt heard Velkyns boot slip on stone. The dwarf turned towards the two rocks, and shouted in alarm to find the drow leaping towards him. The murderours drow grabbed something from the front of his vest and hurled it at the dwarf, yanking his shortswords out in the same breath.

The dwarf began to sputter and choke as the thrown object exploded into a cloud of various mushroom spores. The lithe drow slid around the dwarf and calmly and punctered through his plate armor with his keenly made shortswords, weapons that were made by a very skilled drow black smith. The short man shuddered as the blades thirst for blood began to drink deep, Velkyn could feel the half dozen cuts and scraps on his body close quickly. The dwarf dropped like a bag of metal stones, and the drow felt something moveing through the air, close...and was suddenly slammed sideways by a heavy duty tower shield.

Velkyn rolled with the blow, useing the motion to hide the fact that he pulled a rolled up scroll from inside his cloak. The warrior slowly approached the drow, who lay motionless, his sword ready to deliver a final blow. Velkyn let out a quick serioes of whispers and the warriors body tensed, his downward moveing sword froze in place as if time had stopped. The lithe drow jumped up, and let out a scream, his two swords danceing across the humans throat a half dozen times before the spell wore off and the man crumpled.

He was almost always in control of his emotions and his body, after all an assassin with no control was often a short lived one, but this time...he wanted blood...evisteration!.

"Not so tough now are you drow!" the wizards voice came from somewhere in the dark.

"Not so easy when you dont get the drop on your target huh?" the voice came a few moments later, as the drow crouched down low.

"Lets see if YOU can count to ten!" the voice laughed as the cavern became filled with a loud noise.

"One!" the wizard counted, as a ball of rageing fire sped across the cavern towards the drow, who simply flatened himself on the floor. The fireball exploded harmlessly on a far off cavern wall.

"Two!" came another mocking count, the air rippling to Velkyns right, a wolf of dire proportions materiliseing out of no where. The drow, with a simple flick of his wrist sent a dart into the wolfs skull before it had time to react, the creature vanished into smoke.

"Three!" another mockery, and a lightning bolt that the drow avoided by a hair length, his skin burned and his mind screamed in agony.

"Four!" the drow flicked his wrist in the direction of the wizard. The dart whistled through the air and would have hit the wizards neck, but instead it skipped off some sort of invisible wall and away from the magician.

"Five!", the wizard waved his hands but stopped suddenly as the drow winked from existance, a burned scroll marking where he had been.

"Six!" as the wizard mumbled out another spell, his eyes glowing a spectrum of colors, eyes that now saw a drow scrambling across the cavern, away from the wizard.

"Seven!" Velkyns stomach turned as magic washed over him, several rats turned to look in his direction..wait.."Damn!" he reached for his vest pouchs again.

"Eight!" the magician spoke loudly, as a cloud if darkness appeared around him, obscureing his vision.

"Nine!" the wizard prepaired another spell, for when the darkness vanished. The darkness subsided and the magican stood in amazement, for there was not just one drow, but five!. The drows, which all looked alike surrounded the wizard from all sides.

"Ten" one of the Velkyns said, as one of them sliced the wizards neck open.

//Good encore performance, I know pvp consent isnt needed in the UD but I always ask for common courtasy, but this time it was THEY who asked me for a confrontation, I'am a good sport and I loved the outcome, they did too, even though they died!.
