GREETING:

Drow culture is quite formal in regards to greeting. You must convey deference or respect to the higher ranking individuals. We must learn our greetings or I will have to RP the consequences... at the least it will be a curt reminder or a slap, but possibly a beating.

You must differentiate between a "friend" and a "superior". Greeting a superior like you would greet a friend is not proper RP and subject to disciplinary action. I am sure I am missing some that others can post and add. There may be exceptions for higher ranking males but this is a quick guide.

Keep in mind there is a difference between rank and social influence. Any female outranks a male. However, some males have considerable social influence and power. Lowly females outrank these male but should show some respect toward them since the male is much more influential and powerful. If the female shows respect toward these males, the males are much more likely to use his power and influence in her favor.

* Generally, males and lower ranking females will cast their eyes down when meeting a higher ranking female. Usually they will wait to be acknowledged before initiating a greeting. Come up but stand a distance away. Emote. Cast your eyes down. Emote. Wait for acknowledgement. Emote. Eventually a female may become bold and greet, a male will usually wait. Keep in mind, there are always exceptions, like if the individual is a messenger in the process of delivering an important message. RP it. *

1. Male greets male of equal or lower rank: Vendui, dalninuk. (Hello, Brother)

2. Male greets male of higher rank: Vendui, title

3. Male greets female: *bow* Vendui, jabbress, Ulfaernz'un'arr, Yathrin, Yathtaller, Ilharess, Ulathtallar, Valsharess. (Hello, Mistress, Head of Sorcere, Priestess of Lolth, High Priestess of Lolth, Matron, the Highest of the High Priestesses of Lolth, Queen).

ALWAYS, greet the Ilharess first then the highest ranking individuals on down to the lower. The only possible exception to this is greeting the Valsharess, who may be greeted first. The Ulathtallar says to greet the Ilharess first then the Ulathtallar. NEVER greet the lower ranking individuals first!!! NEVER!!!

4. Female greets female of equal rank:
If both are low rank... Vendui, dalninil. (Hello, sister)
If both are higher rank... *nods or head bow* Vendui, dalninil.

5. Female greets higher rank female: *bow* Vendui Jabbress, Ulfaernz'un'arr, Yathrin, Yathtaller, Ilharess, Ulathtallar, Valsharess. Hello, Mistress, Head of Sorcere, Priestess of Lolth, High Priestess of Lolth, Matron, Highest of the High Priestesses of Lolth, Queen).

NEVER!!!

6. Higher ranking female greets lower ranking female: Vendui, dalninil. If you are a lower ranking female DO NOT GREET THEM BACK IN THE SAME MANNER! They are not your sister, they are your SUPERIOR!

When approaching a group, do not run up and interrupt so quickly. Wait a few seconds for one to acknowledge you. Greet the one who acknowledges you, then the others, your Ilharess first, then according to rank. If no acknowledgment, proceed with the greeting, your Ilharess first, then according to rank.

If De'Lara greets a certain individual you do not know... pay ATTENTION! If De'Lara does... *bow* Vendui, Valsharess. You better do likewise, because De'Lara just greeted the Queen of Szith. You do not need to know exactly who it is but follow suit. Anything less can shame De'Lara or House Morcane

If by chance we forget some formality, I will attempt to assist IC or possibly OOC. If I say to "Greet the Ulathtallar" please do so with a bow and a greeting. I may supply the proper greeting in a tell.... *bows* Vendui, Ulathtallar. Please do so.

FAREWELL: Much like the greetings but REQUEST to be excused. Ilharess, may I be excused, I must rest, I have business to attend to, I must join others on patrol, I must run an errand for my jabbress, etc.

Edited above: jabbuk and jabbress both have two 'B's

Also changed your jabbuk to dalninuk. The former means master, the later is brother like you wanted.

I don't see myself typing "ulfaernz'un'arr" in-game anytime soon . . Amenia'll have to settle for jabbress, hehe

I have used this title in game... it is just SILLY! Last time, Amenia did not respond to De'Lara using the title Ilharess so I will allow the lower rank person to supply the title first.

Thanks for the edits... I will make the above corrections if not made.

Ah, it is not rebellious, only a reflection of reality. For example... the consort of the Valsharess will have considerable influence.

About 2 months ago, I read on TFR website, some information posted by Sherincal420. This is my best recollection of that information in a quick clean format.

Protocol Jabbress/Jabbuk

I am considering appointing a Protocol Jabbress/Jabbuk for social events. Sort of the Drow equivalent of a Greeter.

The Protocol Jabbress would carry a special small quirt used to strike a person who did not express the proper protocol in greeting. Pain associated would be minimal but the strike would be enough to alert the recipient that an error has been made. De'Lara would also have a quirt. Any errant strike would be corrected by De'Lare including a strike to the Protocol Jabbress. Any errors not corrected by the Protocol Jabbress could be corrected by De'Lara including a stike to the Protocol Jabbress. This position could rotate throughout the house and even rotate several times during one meeting!

The posistion could even rotate to Protocol Jabbuk. In that case the Protocol Jabbuk would identify the infraction for De'Lara to dispense the disciplinary action. If correct, the identified one is struck. If incorrect, the Protocol Jabbuk is struck. Failure to identify an error will result in the Protocol Jabbuk being struck.

The identification of an error could be sounded out like, "Protocol Error!" See above for administering of the strike. After the strike, the Protocol Jabbress (or Ilharess) would state, "Bel'la dos, for participating" or something appropriate. Usually, the two would nod to each other in recognition.

Some explanation of the error may be given so all may understand.

Junior members are not supposed to make errors but occasionally, senior members will make intentional errors so that the Protocol Jabbress/Jabbuk will have to successfully identify these errors. The cleverness of these errors can earn one favor. This could be a game played at house events that is in the guise of social learning. No fighting will be tolerated in association with this game.

In general, there is no shame associated with being struck by the Protocol Jabbress in house... out of house is another matter since that represents disciplinary action.

More serious errors are handled by De'Lara with a larger quirt or whip.

I think I'm going to puke . .

Er, I mean . . . well that's just too formalized. If you want to whip someone, do so to your heart's content and leave them lying in a pool of their own blood . . but please, no protocol officers! The horror!!!

The focus here is to correct the greeting while still having RP and not get caught up in the discipline. This is just an occasional thing... not all the time. Perhaps Ceil will be "chosen" first as Protocol Jabbuk!

What build is Anya and what level is she? Is Lolth her god? If Anya is Cleric or Favored Soul build, then she is in the line for Yathrin provided her god is Lolth. If she is Fighter build, then Sargtlin is the line. If Rogue, then Thief and Assassin is the line. With the right information, I can put her in the correct spot. I just read over your bio again... think you are a cleric of Lolth but just need you to confirm.

Please add more to your journal... I enjoy reading it!

Feel free to send me a PM every few days if you are not seeing me in game. That is a good way to relay information or carry on some dialogue with the Ilharess. You can make your PM either IC or OOC.

After you work your way up in the House, there are higher City Institute positions that may be available. I would like to expound on the City Institute positions but there is some variability in the information. I will likely have to ask DM Ilsensine which could take some time to essentially design many lower ranks.

Favoured Soul, character level 5th

Is Lolth her god?

Yes, what else? Razz

does It means that Anya has to prove her god is Lolth ICly or that I should prove my build has it Lolth as god selected.

If the former no problem she is a crazy follower of Lolth, fanatic I would dare to say, if the the later I think I got a problem coz I selected other god than Lolth just to use warhammer as my favoured weapon and not a dagger which is the Lolth's weapon.

I hope it is not a problem, it would be really to strict that about the weapon at an OOCly level, isn't it?

Well I am not a cleric but Anya is Wink

Thank you for your kindly words and yes, you right I have my journal a bit forgotten I will try to use some of my playing time to write a bit instead.

I love that idea and I use to make it with my other character, Nasia Marlain because is really difficult sometimes to get in game everybody so I send as many PM as I need in a rpish way.

By the way I sent you a rpish message to you, it was about the dirty Nawen, did you read it? =)~ (hey Xilow no offense you are really a great mate and you know I like you but Nawem... *grumbles*)

Also, I encourage the other members to make the same each other. It is really a good way to make some roleplaying in a not public way (sometimes there are information that maybe you don't want the others know and a IC forum is nice but sometimes the people can't help to metagame that information so here you are the way to make it Razz )

I would like to take a charge at ARACH-TINILITH some day, when I am not so busy at real life and Anya was enough high level to take it... *grins*

Anyway it is a long way for it. By now I will focus in my way in the house that is really hard Razz

Well, let me know about anything that concerns you, if so, and what else I should make to make Anya a Yathrin of the house, just is case she should make something.

Thank you for your time.

Oh ! I got a problem then, coz I use to be really lawfull.... Razz

Well Anya is Neutral Evil tha is a valid alignment of priest of Lolth, and yes I use to RP a devotion for Lolth which should have every priest of that god.

*starts to pray Lolth to ask her for no finding traffic jump*

Regarding Anya... looks fine! There are quite a few Drow who worship gods other than Lolth, so I had to ask. Will get Anya on the list for Yathrin... or at least on the Yathrin track. I read the IC message from Anya... I will check if De'Lara responded. De'Lara has had problems getting some time to RP with the Ulathtallar.
