She stared down at the blood on her hands, trying vainly to prod some feeling of remorse into her heart. It would naut come, she knew this now.

She had to hide the body, the death of a jalil would naut go unnoticed, and though the corpse had once been a yathrin who had fallen out of Lolths favor, her death would stir questions nonetheless.

A nearby alley gave her the opportunity she needed to dispose of it. Surely the globe of darkness she had placed right before stabbing the now-still Ilythiiri in the back had been noticed... it was too quiet here.
A voice in her head recited something she had heard many times from her ilhar. "Stupid jalil... so stupid! And clumsy too, dos will never be fit to serve the Goddess! I would have been better served birthing a jaluk!"

Her thoughts turned inward.

Shena'la was the second dalharil of the nineteenth house in Sshamath, City of Dark Weavings. These were turbulent times... the cities faerzress grew weaker with each passing cycle.

For generations the city had been cursed almost exclusively with jaluk births. Too many faern attended Sorcere, and too few yathrin learned of Lolth's glory in Arach Tinilith. With the city in such a poor state trade began taking place with the surrounding inferior races, even with some of the more malevolent surfacers. Worship of false gods was prevalent, especially one they called Vhaerun.

Lolth was naut pleased with Sshamath, and the entire city felt this displeasure most acutely.

She shook herself from such dark thoughts, and glanced one last time at the corpse of her older dalninil. Shena'la smiled then, nau more then a wicked split between her thin lips. Yes, she would now become first-dalharil of her house, and would soon be enrolled in Arach Tinilith. Nothing could take her dreams from her now, nothing at all. She knew naut how, but she would single-handedly regain Lolths favor in this city.

She had to.

Pain! Agonizing, burning pain like she had never felt before! She had only enough time to feel a dart sticking from her neck... pulsing dark ichor into her veins... before smashing into the ground face first; her last thought was "Stupid jalil..."

She awoke in a cell, so dark and damp. Several painful lumps had formed on her body, most likely from the bite of venomous spiders in the cell and the no-doubt rough treatment she received while being moved here. She had been spotted, she knew that now. Her execution would be carried out on the next cycle... whenever that was... in the most painful manner the devious minds of Sshamath could devise.

Before Shena'la could contemplate her fate for very long she was met with quite a surprise. A jalil appeared before her, with the clothing of a ilharess. She came through one of the cracks in the cell wall, nau doubt with some form of divine spell. Ssussun... she knew this jalil well indeed! "Malla ilharess Tia'milan... ilhar... have dos come to torture me before my death?"

Her ilhar flashed a wicked grin and said, "Look at what dos have done now Shena'la. If it were up to me I would leave dos here to rot dos know. Stupid jalil! However it is to my great displeasure that I have come to free dos. I was contacted by a yochlol just several hours ago with a specific request... nau, a specific demand... that dos be set free and put into exile from this city. I know naut what dos did to earn the favor of our Queen where many have failed, but I do envy dos my clumsy dalharil."

Shena'la knew well. Countless stupid jaluk had been sacrificed by her hand in the dark dungeons of her house. Countless would-be ilharn killed in the climax of lust. Dead by her hand, hearts torn from their chests with a powerful ceremonial weapon in the midst of their greatest pleasure. Xas, she knew well why the Spider Queen favored her.

Quickly gathering her thoughts Shena'la asked several questions to see if her ilhar was just testing her, toying with her before the execution. After several moments of silent exchange in the hand-code of the drow she felt comfortable with the responses. She was magically altered to the thickness of a fine adamantite dagger and sifting through the wall of her cell within the moment of a breath. Within an hours time she was silently creeping down the luent tunnel outside of Sshamath, giving only the slightest thought to her luck. It would naut be long before her absence was discovered.

For many weeks she crept along the tunnels of Har'oloth, feasting on rats as if she were some filthy gol. Many things took place in this time which would shape and alter Shena'la forever. Her faith in Lolth grew stronger, even as her sanity waned.

Leaning against a rock, in a darkened crevice near the den of a bugbear, Shena'la made a decision. It was time to give herself to Lolth. She would kill herself, and be done with it. There was nowhere for her to go. She crawled out from her hiding spot and started towards her fate... only to be stopped in her tracks by a site she had only dreamed of for months. An Ilythiiri jaluk stood before her destroying the very bugbear she sought to throw herself upon. Feelings of anger and despair were quickly replaced with hope.

After the fight she approached the sargtlin with as much authority and dignity as she could muster, although scarcely able to speak after so long in the wilds of Har'oloth. Shena'la had never been so happy to see a pitiful shebali jaluk in her life!

He told her of a grand city, fully in Lolths favor. A city with acadamies, and many qu'ellar. A city of intrigue, and rich culture. He named it as Szith. She had heard of this city many times, though she had only dreamed of visiting it. She realized only then how far she had travelled, and she realized also what Lolth had in store for her future.

Shena'la would go to this city as a shebali and find a qu'ellar to call her own. She would work her way through the hierarchy, or she would die trying. A smile crept across her face for the first time in months. A new life! All thoughts of her old name and grievances forgotten she looked upon Szith with great pleasure.
