Nawen Xiluisurr is a shebali. She was born in one of the last few groups of nomadic drow in the underdark, which moved from place to place to survive. Not all drow established cities after being banished underground. Some lived in groups as nomads, Nawen being one of them.

Life was harder in a nomadic group. Even brutal at times. Times were also changing. Drow living in nomadic groups were becoming a thing of the past. Nawen's mother, a warrior herself, knew this, along with the rest of the group. Thier group was slowly dwindling in size. The tough warrior and fighting traditions of the group were slowly fading also. Nawen remembers them. Even though they were nearly fearless fighters, at times it did cost them thier lives. They were proud of being able to handle anything the underdark could throw at them. Thier belief in Lolth was more simple.

So when Nawen was old enough, her mother had 4 of the best warriors in the dwindling group escort her to a place not far from Szith. Her mother wanted better for her. She knew that cities were part of the reason that drow groups were getting smaller. Some had left the group for an easier life in cities. There would be more opportunities for Nawen in Szith her mother told her.

So, after a tearful aluve to the 4 warriors who escorted her to where they would part ways (Nawen was still a young jalil), she watched them walk off into the darkness. . .She wondered about her mother; how she would fare. But her mother insisted that she be brought here, near to Szith, and told Nawen not to worry about her; that it was better for her to go to one of the drow cities.

After the 4 warriors were gone, Nawen slumped to the cave floor, feeling a lonliness she never felt before. Tears welled up in her eyes. She sat there for a while in the dark, swimming in an ocean of her thoughts and feelings. Finally, after being there for a few hours, she got up and went the way the warriors told her to go to get to Szith. She was thirsty and hungry and had only a few pieces of gold.

Soon, Nawen made it to Szith. It was her first time in one of the drow cities. She looked around in amazement for a couple of minutes. She noticed all the merchants at thier booths and the nobility and citizens of Szith walking around and some of what looked like seasoned faern and fighters standing around talking. As she was used to doing her chores and things for the group, she thought that she had better start looking for some work. She came across Del'lon who gave her some errands to run. After that, with the little bit of gold she had, she bought some potions and other things.

She realized that in order to make it in this city, she would have to help patrol the passages surrounding it. And that she would get gold for doing so. She also realized that one should not go out into the passages alone; that she needs to be in a group. And even then it could be dangerous.
So she looked for other young drow to group up with to work on her skills and train with. She also knew that her life was going to be different here, but saw the oppotunities and was encouraged.

She also wondered if she could possibly join one of the noble drow houses. . .

This is an excellent background history! Yes, post this on TRF. Not all Drow must be in cities... sure there are outcasts and rebels, but the nomadic drow concept is quite intriguing.

Make sure you put Nawen Morcane - Background as a title! Wink
