The Morcanes and the Gates of Apocalypse Part #1

It has been a quiet evening in Szith. The recent events have caused great discomposure and agony within the ranks of noble Drow Houses. Lloth appeared in Szith only to manifest her discontentment with the nobles and the way they ruled her city. Most of the nobles seem to address the situation with moderation and apprehension. A Drow learns to have no fear for death or pain, but the anger of the Spider Queen would make every Drow to cry, shiver and shake. There is neither greater sin, nor shame for a Drow than this. Hence, most of the nobles have made very timid attempts to show their presence in Szith. To say the truth, most of them have been hiding within their houses. The Yathrinen, pious by nature, have spent their time in the temple praying zealously in a desperate effort to sooth Lloths anger.

Under these circumstances, one could understand why most of the Morcanes have been gathered in the House dinning room. There was no joy, nor much to say. Moriand Morcane, the madder and the most chaotic of all, tried to break the icy atmosphere with one of his jokes, but not many found his humour appropriate. Some managed to bend their mouth muscles and smile politely. Then the ground shook.

The tremor did not last for long, but it was fierce. Drenn, a Yathrin and daughter of Ilharess DeLara, thought it was Lloths anger. The Morcanes were truly doomed! Not only to lose Lloths favour, but also their own house would now collapse! It was Lloths will for every Morcane to be buried in it! The earthquake happened again and again, but the house did not collapse. Soon the Morcanes confined their fear, regained their confidence and tried to give another explanation other than divine malice against them. Drow societies are often religiously nave, so the readers should not be surprised to find that the second explanation the Morcanes gave was Lloths hatred against their old rivals, the Morihyandas. Soon they all run out hoping to find their rivals house wrecked and broken into flinders. Unfortunately for them, this did not happen Aly'Ffyn, who was a bard, and hence less pious and far more practical, or better switched on, thought there was a rumble coming somewhere towards Xiliz. The Morcanes did run towards Xiliz, and the more they approached, the more they heard of this rumble. A series of continuous earthquakes helped the Morcanes to approach closer and closer to the centre of the tremor. Celith, who was once a faern apprentice, but has now grown stronger, using his magic amplified the signal and detected the specific spot where the noise was coming. Moving a pile of rocks the Morcanes managed to find a secret entrance to something looking like an excavation site. Although, the Morcane tried to sneak in quietly and remain undetected, they were soon spotted by darthiir and rivvil!

Before the Morcanes question themselves what the darthiir and the rivvil have been doing so close to Szith, they were attacked by an army of merenaries. Fortunately for the Morcanes, the merecenaries did not stand a chance in front of Fargoths wrath who eagerly smashed their skulls. The Morcanes soon found the one who seemed to act like the leader of the mercenary groups, but fortuntaly or unfortunately Keira Morcane backstabbed him. How foolish of us! said Sonia, who valued information above all, and saw this as an opportunity to learn about the intentions of the surfacers Keira though, seemed to enjoy the moments of satisfaction, which follow a succesfull darthiiri assassination and grinned.

The Morcanes may have never found out what the intentions of the mercenaries had been, but they discovered a chest full of artifacts and books. Celith discouvered an nicely crafted blade amongst the rest and gifted it to Eowo the bard, who thought of the fancy blade as an opportunity to impress the Drow female beauties of Szith Celith gathered and put the books carefully into his bag with the care only a wizard would show for books. The Morcanes made haste and left the excavation site moments before it collapsed. Later the Morcanes returned back home and Celith gave the books to Moriand

Good job Mysh. Missed a few of us that were there:

Vornrak, that mage for which I killed the cat ( hugh!) . All the traps and locked doors that were disactivated/opened.

Confusion. Celith and Vorn Hot headed ran into every spawned mercenary. No question..kill kill kill!

Chaos!... Sonia trying to calm us down..

Vorn received a nicely crafted chain armor, after unlocking the chest and given its content to Celith.

Excerpts from Vornraks notes

Back from a long patrol to fold back the Gnolls in their cavern, Vornrak comes back to Szith.

As he passed the last gate to Szith, he ears a deep rumble from deep under! As he arrive in the city, he crossed a few Morcane that were heading for their house for council. Again a deep rumble and the rock face shook a bit.

To where was thought to be a safe place they gathered: Drenn, Aly'Ffyn, Moriand, Celith, Teremus (on his initiation day), Sonya, Fargoth, Sorith, Eowo and himself. Much discussion went on about the source of all this commotion and what needed to be done! A third and stronger tremor. Either Lolth is angry or else, they bolted out to locate the source of it.

Celith lead them toward the Xilith cave, near the citizen area. And they marched down the tunnels, dispatching whatever beast and animals they encountered, most of them fleeing something far more scarier.

Then they stumble on that large opening in the tunnel side, a hole that many previous patrol never had revealed. For Lolth, without no fear the proceeded through.

The cavern they discovered was found later to be a maze of tunnels and locked doors, upon each a party of rivvil pirates and mercenary grouped with darthir archers were waiting for ambush.

Luckily, he was skilled enough to pick those lock easily which help proceeding deeper in the tunnel.

Door after door, hot headed Vornrak, Fargoth and Celith, backed by the rest of the party, went head down charging, cutting their throat, smashing their bones without prior questioning. After much of this slutter, a strange feeling pressed them. Why were they here? What was their purpose? Little to no clue they had gathered so far for no ones were left alive for questioning.

Sonya, wisely calmed the troops, in an attempt to put some planning behind their action. Capturing at least one mercenary they needed to do. They needed one still ALIVE!

First attempt failed for the warriors were still highly pumped on adrenaline and barely could restrain their weapons to fly around!

They finally composed themselves before what was found later to be the last door to the mercenary boss. Still under Sonya instructions, they proceeded in stealth to the other side. They spotted a larger in stature rivvil, next to a faintly glowing chest.

While they were proceeding toward him, alerted by information given by Moriand in house and after tracking them to this cave, showed up on the scene Keira.

In the midst of the fight that soon started, she delivered the deadly blow to the leading mercenary, collapsing him breathless, stab wounds in his back.

Without hesitation, Vornrak

started to disable the trap that was setup for the chest, and shortly after that the lock was picked open. Books, sword, armor was founded in the chest and given swiftly to Celith in order to identified them thoroughly.

These books we need to give to Moriand. He will know how to use them said Celith.

Turning toward Vornrak who was cleaning his blades of the filth rivvil blood, he gave him as a reward a leather armor to fit his skills.

Tremors again were felt in the tunnel, and this time rocks were falling everywhere. Swiftly, the party ran down the path that lead them there, to escape the pit hole just in time. With a deep deafening roar, the tunnel had just collapsed on itself.

After counting that no one had been left being, they regain their noble house where Moriand

was waiting for their return.
