Vindel Duskryn had cast Etheralness on himself and came back to house Duskryn. He was packing what he could carry with him of importance in disgust. He was also sadly saying aluve to all there in the house. He had attained a desirable position of power and influence most jalukul could only dream about having. He was part of the Sorcere council of faern in Menzoberranzen. He was also the Qu'el'velguk of house Duskryn, and born to noble parents in the house.

Yet, Vindel was packing his things and getting ready to leave Menzoberranzen for good. Why would such an accomplished jaluk leave all that he had worked so hard for?

Vindel Duskryn was born and raised in house Duskryn in Menzoberranzen. His father was a well known faern in the Sorcere council of faern (which was in the grip of the matrons). His mother was a yathrin in the clerical academy Arach-Tinilith, a spidershaped building where priestesses are trained.

After Vindel's parents saw his remarkable ability in the arcane at an very early age, they enrolled him in the Sorcere tower in Menzoberranzen. As a young jaluk, Vindel could not only cast cantrips and first circle spells with greater ease than many jalukul in the Sorcere, but he could do so with greater effectiveness. As time went by and as Vindel excelled in the arcane arts, he also aroused some envy and jealousy among his collegues, as far as actual spellcasting goes. Vindel did not have much interest in crafting, which other faern did, but believed that his specialty was in casting effective and powerful spells instead. During Vindel's last year as a student in Sorcere, a contest of the graduating class in the arcane was held, overseen by the matrons and the master of the clerical academy and other high ranking yathrin of the various houses in the city. The winner of this arcane contest, which is held every year for each graduating class, would be considered for a position on the Sorcere council of faern. Vindel won this contest in the year of his graduation, closely followed by two others, one of which was of the first house of Baenre.

Vindel's parents, his father especially, were proud! During a meeting of the council of faern, they decided to accept Vindel as a part of the council, after a time of apprenticeship, should he do well with that. As Vindel's father was still a member of the council, he was not allowed to be Vindel's mentor, but another on the council instead. But, to help ensure Vindel's success during his time of apprenticeship for the council, Vindel's father pulled a few strings here and there to have a faern of his choice to be Vindel's mentor.

Time went by and Vindel's knowledge of the arcane impressed his mentor and others. The time came when Vindel's apprenticeship came to an end and a decision was made. . .Vindel was accepted to be a part of the council of faern. So Vindel took his place on the council and served there well. But, he also saw how the politics, schemes for power and such worked at the higher levels of life as a noble in Menzoberranzen, which has 21 noble houses, house Baenre being the first house there.

Vindel served well on the council, also learning how to deal with the politics of the matrons, the yathrin, the Ulathtallar, the council of faern, and so on, as does anyone in these positions. Having served well, the time came when Vindel was considered for the position of Master of Sorcere. Of course, Vindel's parents were proud, though by now they were getting up in years, though still serving in thier positions. Vindel was in the prime of his life.

So Vindel was considered for the position of Master of Sorcere in Menzoberranzen. But, some in the first house of Baenre did not approve of this, being envious of Vindel's skill and knowledge of the arcane, nor did they want someone from a lower house like house Duskryn to become the master of Sorcere. House Baenre, being the first house, had many of its members in positions of power and influence throughout the city. House Duskryn and other lesser drow houses, had fewer of its members in such positions.

So, a secret meeting of house Baenre was held, and it was decided that Vindel should be eliminated, as they had someone who they felt should be Master of Sorcere instead. It was decided that they should send thier Qu'el'velguk (House Wizard) and Qu'el'saruk (House Weapon Master), to lie in hiding and wait for an opportune time to kill Vindel, while covering thier tracks. They also decided to kill Vindel's parents, having others who they felt could do the job and cover their tracks as well. The Qu'el'velguk, who was needed to dispel any protective spells and such that Vindel might cast, and the Qu'el'saruk would deal the lethal melee blows that would kill him. They decided to track Vindel and wait for an opportune time to strike. . .

Vindel had a merchant near a rough part of town that he liked to visit for certian arcane supplies. Even as a noble jaluk of his position, he did not wish to be confined to the more secure areas only that other nobility stayed in. He also liked to get out and visit other areas of town as well sometimes, but took precautions when doing so such as having protective spells cast on himself. It did draw some attention and awe from the shebali and rothe who saw him, but they did not bother him because of it. So one day, when Vindel went to the merchant in this area, the the house wizard and weapon master of Baenre followed him. After Vindel purchased what he wanted he went his way back to Sorcere. The knew of Vindel's route back to Sorcere, which went through a couple of dark shadowy areas. They waited for him in one of these areas and struck him as he went around a corner. The Baenre house mage cast Mordekainen's Disjunction on Vindel and dispelled his protective spells. Fortunately, Vindel had another Stoneskin spell and a Spell Mantle that he could cast on which he did, but the Baenre house weapon master was coming at him, and slashing at him! Vindel's spells protected him enough for him to cast Mordekainen's Disjunction, then Assay Resistance, then Flesh to Stone on the weapon master. The weapon master was petrified, but he had the house mage to deal with now. . .he was bleeding badly, but still able to stand. Vindel and the house mage of Baenre had a spectacular battle of the arcane with each other. Vindel was able to weaken him enough to cast a paralyzation spell on him. The house mage was paralyzed and Vindel, being wounded bad and limping, decided to make his way to his mother, who was a yathrin still at the clerical academy for healing. Vindel used some of the material from his robe that he tore off to bandage his wounds and stop the blood from dripping. He limped his way into the clerical academy only to sadly hear from a yathrin abbil of his mother that she had been killed, along with his father. Vildren was stunned upon hearing this and fell to the floor unconscious, being weakened by his wounds and loss of blood also. The yathrin he was speaking to and a couple of others then tended to his wounds and healed him.

After regaining consciousness, Vildren spoke to the yathrin tending to him. Vildren recovered soon from his wounds, during which time he wondered wht he should do, having eluded the assasination attempt from the first house. It was then he remembered hearing from a very successful traveling merchant about a town called Szith, having only 3 noble houses, but it was very far away from Menzoberranzen, being in the underdark under a certian isle called Elben Aator, off the Faerun mainland. He thought about it and soon decided that it would be a good place to go; better than other places he was considering, anyway. He knew he would not be safe if he stayed in Menzoberranzen.

After he healed and recovered, he spoke a few parting words and aluves to the yathrin. He then cast Etherealness on himself and decided to check out both his and his fathers quarters at the Sorcere tower. His fathers quarters were empty, someone having taken all his possessions no doubt, Vindel thought. He then snuck to his quarters, and went in. He saw none of his possessions; eveything of his was gone; his scrolls, his books, everthing. Vindel saw the name "Baenre" on a chest in what was his bedroom and saw the name of one of the two students who also did well in the Arcane contest years ago before his graduation. He knew that his replacement from the first house was here now. And that the first house by now knew of thier failed attempt to kill him and they were going to continue seeking him out and to make sure that he gets eliminated.

He then snuck to house Duskryn. He spoke to all the nobles there about what had happened. He told them that he was leaving Menzoberranzen for good, but did not say where he was going to. They understood why. He grabbed what little of his possessions from the house that he could, said aluve to them all, cast Etherealness on himself, and then went to the merchant quarter part of town. To his surprise, he saw the traveling merchant that he had spoke to years ago about Szith. The merchant said he was getting ready to pack his things and go to Szith himself in the underdark, with the protection of his many armed warriors and faern that he paid well to have protect him. Vindel talked to him about what all had happened to him and asked if he could come with him. The merchant was happy to have him along and soon Vindel was leaving Menzoberranzen for good and making his way to Szith, which would take some time.

The traveling merchant, his guards and Vindel finally made thier way to Szith. Vindel noticed immediately how small the city was to Menzoberranzen, yet it looked prosperous enough. In the towns center, he spoke to a few shebali and discovered that there were only 3 noble houses here currently. He said goodbye and bel'la dos to the traveling merchant, and with the gold he had saved up, he rented an apartment. He also bought some scrolls and other arcane related items from the other merchants in Szith and was on his way to resuming his studies and practice of the arcane. He became acquainted with some of the shebali there and started going on patrols with them to help keep the population of the creatures in the underdark in check, which was something he hadnt done since becoming a member of the council in Menzoberranzen when he was younger. He was planning on rubbing shoulders with some of the Morcane nobility also, in hopes that he could he could be accepted in thier house, and get back to the life of a noble which he was used to...
