A Brief History of Teer
Narrated by Teers god
I. Dark Beginnings
The wind howled during a cold cloudless night. Under the darkness of a new moon, a hooded skeletal creature wearing an antiquated robe searches the lands frantically for the last necessary element for a long forgotten spell. The creature scans the landscape looking for the exact human dwelling identified through the creatures earlier scrying labors. At last the dwelling appears on the horizon, the skeletal form moves quickly to the door. With a twitch of the creatures skeletal finger, the door slams open letting in a thunderous roar of the wind. The denizens of the dwelling startled by the commotion face the form at the door. With fear in the air, the inhabitants move about in a frantic attempt to find safety from the creatures glowing stare. At this moment, the creature screams with arms outstretched. In an instant, each of the inhabitants save one lay quiet and still. The hooded form hearing its mark sweeps up the rustling female. Before the midnight hour passes, the skeletal form makes haste to arrive at a secluded monastery tucked away up the mountainside. As the creature approaches the heavy wooden doors of the keep, the doors creak open slowly. Several robed humans meet the creature before it reaches the open doors. As the monks gather up the rustling female from the creature, an elder monk says to the female From this day forward, you shall be known as Teer.
II. Early Years
Teer faithfully served at the secluded mountain monastery for many years. In all the years at the monastery, Teer never left the grounds. Eccentric monks guided nearly every aspect of Teers existence. The monks denied Teer the access to common history and lore. The monks forbade Teer from reading. Teer spoke only when given permission from an elder monk. The monks disciplined Teer in the monastic order ways: speak true words, deny ones will with fist raised chanting, and observe enigmatic rituals involving the inflicted and their restoration.
After all those years, the hooded skeletal creature returned to the monastery. The creature escorted a blindfolded Teer far away to a port city. Without even knowing the citys name, Teer boarded a ship. The creature and the ship captain led Teer to a small room in the ships hold. Teer alone in this room spent many a days and nights as the ship sailed the seas. At last, the ship made port at an uncharted island. The captain led Teer to the port docks and said, GO NOW!
III. Banishment of Sorts
Teer looking upon this port for the first time made her way toward land. Without guidance from the mountain monks, Teer sought to observe and reflect on the island people. Teer found few who understood the ways of the mountain monastery. Yet, Teer continued to faithfully practice the ways that were learnt in seclusion at the mountain temple. Through Teers travels, Teer gained insight and lore into the common ways such as reading, language, and history.
Teer queried travelers and local residents about common ways and others ways. During such a conversation, Teer learned of a monk cloister based on the island. A fellow traveler introduced Teer to the elder monk of the island cloister. The elder monk accepted Teer as an apprentice. The elder monk showed Teer many glorious sights on the island for reflecting upon. The elder guided Teer in the ways of balance and the monk styles of death and flames. After a number of seasons of training, the elder suggested Teer branch out alone and form a splinter cloister. After much discussion and consideration, Teer and the elder monk agreed upon a far away land known as the forgotten realm.
IV. New Beginnings
Teer arrived at a port in the forgotten realm after a long sea voyage. Without hesitation, Teer spoke to those in the realm about the ways of balance and the ways of the realm. After encouragement from a number of new acquaintances, Teer set out to see what she could and to develop her own sacred styles.
The realm provided a rich assortment of experiences for Teer to reflect upon. After reflecting on Teers observation of large swamp creatures in the realm, she found her ability to knockdown large creatures improved. In a dark mountain valley, wicked tree creatures wrathfully attacked Teers body and will. After reflecting on these trees, Teer acquired divine favors of skin tough as bark. Teer noticed the many arcane spell casters of the realm weaving magic armor. After several weeks of reflection on these casters, Teer attained divine favors of magical armor. Teer noticed the vulnerability that many trolls of the realm suffer toward fire. After a trek to the top of a stone peak near a dying glacier, Teer reflections led to the gift of flames about her hands and fists for short periods of time. The many giants of the realm attacked Teer. The giant bodies often fell and crushed Teer to near death. After a number of these crushing experiences, Teer developed a new style to both deliver her own crushing blows and to defensively move out of the way from crushing blows.
V. Sinister Breaches
Teer humbly and faithfully served her callings. Teer noticed many mysterious openings scattered throughout the realm. Teer sought opinions from the many travelers that she came across upon the surface. About these dark places, Teer heard a recurring theme of much strife in the darkness, hatred of the dark dwellers, dark dwellers tyranny upon others, and great fear of the dark dwellers. After much mediation and reflection, Teer felt compelled to begin exploring the many caves and crevasses found throughout the realm. On one of Teers excursions into the dark passages, Teer met a dark dweller also known as a drow . . . To be continued.
